Server Chocolate Experiencing High Latency

Good evening my friends,

Those clients who are on Chocolate may be experiencing some high latency while visiting your sites tonight. This is because I have been forced to run an FSCK (File System Check) on the back up drive. If this check is not run, then backups will not continue to run at the daily scheduled time and the file system may become compromised. I run daily and monthly backups on every site located on Chocolate and it’s important that all of your sites are properly backed up should the need arise to restore a file or two, or the entire site if need be.

I definitely apologize for the inconvenience, however, current backups are a top priority.

Final Move – Vanilla to Chocolate

Heya,

What a busy September it has been! The final move of accounts on Vanilla to Chocolate was delayed because I had to fly to Brazil with the husband for some business. The last of the clients on Vanilla have received a a transfer notice to the e-mail account that is on file with Twenty70. The details are below:

Please read the following information carefully as some changes on your end may need to take place. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Date of Transfer: Wednesday October 12, 2011

Time of Transfer: 10:00pm EST

Sites will be transferred in alphabetical order and depending on how large the site is, only takes a few minutes to transfer. Everything will be copied over exactly, no e-mail will be lost.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE YOUR DOMAIN REGISTERED WITH TWENTY70 HOSTING, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO UPDATE YOUR DOMAIN NAME SERVERS MANUALLY.

Currently, your domain name servers are:

NS1.twenty70.com/ns2.twenty70.com

They will need to be updated to the following:

NS3.twenty70.com
NS4.twenty70.com

(Do not update your nameservers until the transfer has occurred)

If you would like me to transfer your site before October 12, 2011 and at your convenience, just let me know which time and date will be best for you and I will be sure to transfer your site at that time.

No downtime should occur.

Again, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I also thank you all very much for your patience during this process and for your patronage.

Server Move: Vanilla to Chocolate.

Today and for the rest of the week I will be moving accounts from the server ‘Vanilla’ to the server ‘Chocolate’. While *most* of you won’t notice a thing, some of you may see a “Website Moved” page. This simply means that your computer still has the old DNS cached and once that cache updates, the page will go away.

Why the move? Well, Vanilla is about 4 years old and she’s ready to retire. There has been problems with her almost monthly with MySQL database errors and those will now be eliminated. :-)

What do you need to do? If your domain is registered through Twenty70 Hosting, then I’ve updated your domain DNS information for you. Once the DNS changes propagate around the world (which doesn’t take but a few minutes these days) all visitors will be viewing the site on the newest server. If you’re still having trouble viewing the site, then the old DNS information is still cached. You can either wait for the cache to update, unplug your modem for a few seconds (my preferred method :-\ ) or follow the steps below:

If your domain is NOT with Twenty70 Hosting, you will receive an e-mail from me regarding the transfer of your domain.

Clearing Cache:

Windows® XP, 2000, or Vista®

  1. Open the Start menu.
  2. Go to Run.
    • If you do not see the Run command in Vista, search for “run” in the Search bar.
  3. In the Run text box, type: ipconfig /flushdns
  4. Press Enter or Return, and your cache will be flushed.

MacOS®

  1. Go to Applications.
  2. Go to Utilities.
  3. Open the Terminal application.
  4. Type: dscacheutil -flushcache
  5. Press Enter or Return, and your cache will be flushed.

If you have any questions at all, please log in to your client dashboard and submit a ticket. I will be happy to help in anyway I can.

Upgrading WordPress

Upgrading to the latest version is easy! Simply follow these few steps and it can be done automatically.

Step 1: When logged in to your WordPress administration panel, you will see a notice at the top if you need to upgrade. Simply click “Please update now.”. (It is very important you keep your WordPress installation up-to-date! Updates not only add new features but fix security issues. If left out-dated, you’re leaving your blog wide open for attacks.)

Step 2: Select Update Automatically

Step 2

Step 3: Success, You’re done! Select Go To Dashboard!

Step 3

And We’re Back!

We finally have our website back. :-) Hope you like it. You’ll also notice that the Client Dashboard is different as well, it looks much less plain than it did before! High Five! Be sure to check back here for continued updates or subscribe to our RSS feed. We would greatly appreciate it.
Many Thanks,

Kelly

Well, We’re Almost Back

We’re almost back up and running. Unfortunately it is taking a little bit longer than I’d hoped. You can, however, still view and order hosting packages by going to Hosting Solutions > WordPress Hosting.

Yes, I broke my website.

It appears that I have broken the previous website beyond repair. I’m not sure what I did but files and directories got criss-crossed, new mixed with old, images went missing and just one big puzzle. So, I’m taking this opportunity to redo it all. I’m cleaning up directories, deleting old crap, moving stuff around to be more organized. Which brings me to an important announcement:

The Client Dashboard Has Moved: Please visit https://my.twenty70hosting.com to manage your hosting and/or submit a ticket.

The website should be completed by evening 8/31/2011.
