To Add a new Post or a new Page, go to Posts > Add New OR Pages Add New. This is the new post screen (the new page screen is VERY similar).

For Posts:

You can schedule posts to publish at a later time and date by clicking on “Edit” right next to “Publish immediately” on the right side of the post box. The “immediately” will change once you modify the time and date you want to post to publish.

You can add new categories and tags within this screen uses the boxes on the right and also set a featured image if your theme supports featured images.

If you’re not ready to publish the post yet, simply click “Save Draft”… if you’re ready.. just press the big blue “Publish” button.

For Pages:

You can schedule pages to publish at a later time and date by clicking on “Edit” right next to “Publish immediately” on the right side of the post box. The “immediately” will change once you modify the time and date you want to post to publish.

You can select “Parent Pages” by using the “Parent” Drop down menu. For instance, if you have a page called “Our Family” with general information about your family, you can create “Child Pages” for each family member. Say you create a page for child Suzy. You would have the parent page as “Our Family”. The permalink for this would show domain.com/ourfamily/suzy instead of domain.com/suzy/

If your theme has different page templates, you can also select which template to us with the Template drop down menu.

So you’ve got WordPress installed and now you need to know what everything in the dashboard does. Do not fear, below I’ve provided a little overview.

Home > This is basically an overview of your WordPress site.
Updates > If you have any theme updates, plugin/widget updates, or WordPress updates…they will be listed here. You can automatically update with just one click.

Posts

Posts

• All Posts – Lists all of your posts
• Add New – Add a new post
• Categories – Lists all the categories you’ve created, you can also create categories here.
• Tags – Lists all the tags you’ve created, you can also create tags here.

Media

Media

• Library – Displays all the media (images) you’ve uploaded.
• Add New – Add new media (images).

Links

Links

• All Links – Shows all of your links
• Add New – Add a new link
• Link Categories – These are your link categories, or a blogroll. You can have multiple “blogrolls”. To have this links display within your sidebar, you can use the “Links” widget and select the category you want to display. I.E Favorite Sites, Deal Websites, Foodie Sites, etc.

• All Pages – Displays all of your pages.
• Add New – Add a new page.

Comments – Displays all comments

Appearance

• Themes – Manage your themes by activating a new one. Install or search for ready made themes that are available for one click install.
• Widgets – Drag & Drop widgets to your sidebars or header/footer widget areas if applicable.
• Menu – Set up your site’s navigation menu. (If applicable for your theme)
• Header – Install a custom header for your site. (If applicable for your theme)
• Background – Install a custom background for your site. (If applicable for your theme)
• Editor – Edit your themes Stylesheet and PHP Template files. Beware when editing this, you can break your site if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Plugins

• Installed Plugins – View all of your installed plugins. Activate, Deactivate, or Delete plugins/third party widgets. TIP: If you’re not using a plugin or widget anymore, delete it. Also, keep all plugins/widgets up to date.
• Add New – Search for and install third party plugins/widgets.
• Editor – Edit the plugin files. NOT RECOMMEND UNLESS YOU ARE PROFICIENT IN WRITING PHP/MYSQL CODE

Users

• All Users – Lists all users that you’ve added to your site. They can be authors/editors/contributor/etc.
• Add New – Add a new user. Please be sure to assign them the appropriate permissions. See a list of them here at the WordPress User Rolls and Capabilities
• Your Profile – Edit your profile, e-mail address, change your password, display name, etc.

• Available Tools – Lists available tools
• Import – Install an import plugin to import your blog from a different blogging platform such as Blogger.
• Export – Export your blog for backup purposes in an XML file or to move to a new blogging platform.

Those clients who are on Chocolate may be experiencing some high latency while visiting your sites tonight. This is because I have been forced to run an FSCK (File System Check) on the back up drive. If this check is not run, then backups will not continue to run at the daily scheduled time and the file system may become compromised. I run daily and monthly backups on every site located on Chocolate and it’s important that all of your sites are properly backed up should the need arise to restore a file or two, or the entire site if need be.

I definitely apologize for the inconvenience, however, current backups are a top priority.

What a busy September it has been! The final move of accounts on Vanilla to Chocolate was delayed because I had to fly to Brazil with the husband for some business. The last of the clients on Vanilla have received a a transfer notice to the e-mail account that is on file with Twenty70. The details are below:
